Description: Down route 132 towards Cape Kumukahi and left on 137 takes you across the lava flow from the 1960 Kapoho eruption into The Old Puna Trail. This section of the “The King's Trail", which is a series of foot trails circumscribing the Big Island since ancient times, was originally a footpath, widened for horses and later for motor vehicles. The road is lined with over 350 mango trees estimated to be almost 150 years old and over 80 feet in height. Old rock walls at times force the road to narrow to about 10 feet wide. This unpaved road winds along for about 3 miles under a canopy of lush rainforest that has existed longer than anyone alive can remember.
